Things to Do after Installing Lion

The lion has come out months ago. Presumably most Mac users have been upgraded to Lion. Although most users as well as the major media are giving highly evaluation on this system, it can not be 100% perfect actually. At least it is not possible to be perfect for everyone. Things to Do after Installing Lion

1. Wait for hours after upgrading to Lion.

It is a normal thing that the system will be in very slow operation in the following a few hours after you upgrade system. A lot of people are in response to this problem that the computer really cannot work in a few hours after upgrading for the slow operation. And the heat is also very serious. What magic is that it will work just fine hours later.

This is because that Lion will re-index your data on your hard disk to facilitate your future Quick Search in the Spotlight after the first launch. Since the establishment of the index is very resource intensive, so you will feel slow and hot. So you might as well go out to rest for a a breath of fresh air after the upgrade Lion.

2. Adjust mouse/touchpad scrolling direction.

The mouse/touch plate rolling direction of this new system is reverse to our usual practice. If you do not adapt, then just adjust it after upgrading. Actually, the rolling direction of Lion is the real "natural" rolling direction, but we used to the "reverse" roll up. You can directly go to System Preferences > Trackpad > Scroll and Zoom to remove the setting on the “Scroll Direction: natural” option.

3. Encrypt your files with Filevault

Mac had have the Filevault disk encryption tool long before. But this tool is not so well that even a small problem may cause the lose of all your data. But in Lion, this function has been completely redeveloped. Basically everything but the name is still the same, the function, stability, speed, security and other aspects are much better than before. If your data confidentiality requirements are very high, the just give Filevault a chance again. Just go to "System preferences > Safety and privacy > Filevault" to set it.

4. Turn off the Dashboard in the Mission Control.

Lion's Mission Control is really a great feature. However, every time you open it, the left corner will display as Dashboard. Even when you switch application to the left of the screen, it will also display Dashboard. That is to say the Dashboard is occupied by a Space alone, but the gadgets on Dashboard are not practical. We are sure to get rid of the unpractical things. The method is very simple, just go to "system preferences > Mission Control" to remove the box in front of the "Show Dashboard As Space".

5. Turn off auto-correction.

This is a function that borrowed ideas from iOS. Although the idea of this feature is good, it is still difficult to use. We are not three years old children, and the wrong correction is rarely seen, so just shut it. Just go to "System Preferences > Language & Text > Text" to get rid of the check box in front of the "Correct spelling automatically" option.
